What is the 25-question RBT practice test?

This is a mid-length RBT practice test — 25 multiple-choice questions drawn from every domain of the BACB RBT Task List (3rd Edition). It sits in the gap between the short topic quizzes you use to warm up and the full 85-question practice exam you save for final readiness. Twenty-five questions is enough to surface your weak domains, but light enough that you can run it at the end of almost any study session without burning out.

If you’re brand new to the material, start gentler with the beginner RBT practice test first. If you want to train the applied, situational style of question specifically, the scenario-based RBT practice test is built for that. This page is your everyday checkpoint in between.

Why 25 questions is the right checkpoint length

Full-length mock exams matter, but you can’t sit an 85-item test every day — fatigue makes the score meaningless and you stop wanting to study. A 25-question test solves that. It’s short enough to take often, and because each question is worth a clean 4%, your percentage maps directly onto the 80% readiness benchmark the real exam rewards. Take it twice a week through your study period and the trend line tells you whether your prep is actually working.

What this test covers

The 25 questions are spread across the six domains in roughly the same proportion as the real RBT exam, so your practice mirrors the test’s content distribution. Tap any domain to drill it on its own:

What your score means

Use your result to decide your next move, not just to feel good or bad:

  • 20–25 correct (80%+): you’re at readiness level. Put it under real timing with the full 85-question exam or the 75-question test.
  • 15–19 correct (60–76%): close, but not yet. Note the domains you missed, review them in the RBT study guide, drill the matching quiz above, then retake this test.
  • Under 15 (below 60%): build the foundation first. Work through the study guide domain by domain and the beginner practice test before coming back.

How to take it like the real exam

The closer you treat this to test conditions, the more useful the score is.

Time yourself. Give yourself about 25–30 minutes — roughly the pace you’ll need on the real 90-minute, 85-question exam.
No notes, no lookups. A practice score only means something if it reflects what you actually know cold.
Read the whole stem. RBT questions often hide the key detail in the last line. Don’t answer off the first sentence.
Watch for “BEST” and “MOST appropriate.” When you see those words, more than one answer will look right. Pick the strongest, most in-scope option.
Quick tip: on any question where an option has you diagnosing, deciding a behavior’s function, or changing the plan yourself, rule it out. Those are BCBA responsibilities — and the exam tests whether you know the difference. When in doubt, the answer that stays in the RBT’s lane and loops in the supervisor is usually correct.

Build a full study plan

This 25-question test is one piece of your prep. Pair it with concept review in the RBT study guide, single-domain drilling in the quizzes above, and full-length sittings on the full RBT mock exam. You can see every format side by side on the all RBT practice exams page, or start from our main RBT practice exam hub to map out your whole study sequence.

Frequently asked questions

Is 25 questions enough to prepare for the RBT exam?

A single 25-question test isn’t enough on its own, but used regularly it’s one of the most efficient checkpoints in your prep. It’s long enough to reveal weak domains and short enough to repeat often, so you can track improvement across your study period and then confirm readiness with full-length mock exams.

How many questions are on the real RBT exam?

The RBT exam contains 85 multiple-choice questions: 75 are scored and 10 are unscored pilot questions. You have 90 minutes, and it’s delivered at a Pearson VUE testing center or through online proctoring.

What score do I need to pass?

The BACB uses a scaled scoring system rather than a fixed percentage, so there’s no published pass mark. As a practical benchmark, aim to score 80% or higher consistently on practice tests — about 20 of 25 here — across at least two separate attempts.

Are these real RBT exam questions?

No — these are original questions written to match the style, difficulty, and content areas of the real exam. The actual exam questions are confidential. Practicing with closely aligned questions is the most effective legal way to prepare.

Is this practice test free?

Yes. It’s completely free, with no sign-up, no email, and no payment. Take it as many times as you like, and every question comes with an explanation.

Is this website affiliated with the BACB or Pearson VUE?

No. This is an independent study resource based on publicly available BACB guidelines and the RBT Task List (3rd Edition). It is not sponsored or endorsed by the BACB or Pearson VUE.
